Ecos partners with Detroit Edison on two new efficiency projects

Ecos’ goal for 2009 – as with any year – is to continue to deliver great results for our clients while growing our positive environmental impact. Ecos has been selected by Detroit Edison (DTE Energy) in Michigan to assist with creating long- term energy savings.

In Detroit, a city that is struggling with recent automaker bankruptcies and growing unemployment, promoting energy efficiency is a small – but largely effective – way to help residents cut energy costs when they need it most. The DTE Energy Multifamily program provides for free direct-install measures in multifamily buildings – CFLs, low-flow showerheads, water pipe wrap and programmable thermostats – and also offers deep incentives on efficient commercial lighting measures in common areas.

“These measures are a win-win-win for landlords, tenants and the entire community,” said Senior Program Manager Joe Gaffney. “Tenants and owners save money, save energy, and build a better relationship with each other and the utility. Even more importantly, contractors and trade allies that partner with the program will have the opportunity to grow business and create more ‘clean tech’ jobs. Any chance to create new job opportunities in Michigan is a long-term win.”

Over the next three years, the measures implemented by the program will result in annual energy savings of 49,154 MWh and 54,194 MCF.

Last week Ecos was also selected by DTE Energy to help develop a solar strategy for the utility, a plan that will help them successfully provide PV technology incentives in their service territory.

“Ecos has had great success with our solar programs in the Southwest, and has gained a lot of knowledge and insight into how consumers view these programs,” said Neil Sainsbury-Carter, director of Climate Solutions. “This will allow us to advise DTE Energy on program design installation best practices that will appeal to its customers.”

“Being selected by DTE further supports our goal to be able to provide technical services for renewable and distributed generation to both our utility and private-side clients,” added Jon Thomsen, Ecos president. “This win is a great opportunity for Ecos and further supports our position as a national player with broad and exciting technical capabilities.”
