Water conservation is an expanding program offering for Ecos, and in eastern Washington, Ecos is using lessons learned from efficiency programs and applying them to educate residents of Spokane and Spokane County about the importance of saving water. “Spokane and the surrounding areas are very dependent on the Spokane River and the aquifer that provides for the city’s drinking, farming and recreational needs,” said Senior Program Manager, Joe Gaffney. “We think most local residents are eager to do their part to conserve, and the program helps them save money, too.”
The program will offer residents up to $100 incentives on products that save the most water – WaterSense High Efficiency Toilets and ENERGY STAR clothes washers – while also educating residents on other ways they can use less. “While this program focuses on saving water rather than energy, Ecos will employ many of our strategies from our other efficiency programs – like engaging consumers , retailers and trade allies – to make it successful,” added Gaffney.
The program – which is co-sponsored by the City of Spokane and Spokane County – will run up to four years and hopes to provide incentives on 9,200 HETs and 3,500 clothes washers to meet its goals.
