As a partner to the China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Alliance, Ecos is inviting environmental and business leaders to an international roundtable discussion on Wednesday, September 23 in Portland. Business leaders, government officials, high-tech and energy professionals, along with specialists from the academic and non-profit communities, will gather to focus on the topic, “Why the Northwest Should Care about Improving Energy Efficiency in China.” This will be the third Roundtable event organized by the Alliance, and the first held in the Northwest.
The China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to combating global climate change by promoting energy efficiency as the cleanest and least expensive energy resource in China. Through their network of experts, officials, and other key stakeholders in China and the U.S., the Alliance pools financial and technical resources to help China design and implement practical, large-scale energy efficiency programs.
The Alliance is able to achieve substantial and concrete results by working directly with key Chinese officials at central and provincial levels, who have invited the Alliance to provide regulatory and technical advice and training.
In late 2007, the Alliance launched a Roundtable series designed to share the latest developments with respect to energy and environmental issues in China and to provide an opportunity for discussion with key experts in this field. The Roundtables bring together a wide range of experts from all sectors, allowing them to exchange information and experience and network with others with interest in this subject.
The Portland Roundtable will feature the following speakers and panelists:
Speakers
- Portland Mayor Sam Adams
- Barbara Finamore, President, China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Alliance; China Program Director, Natural Resources Defense Council
- Mark D. Levine, Ph.D., Group Leader of China Energy Group, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Former Director of Environment Energy Technology Division)
Panelists
- Steven S. Cliff, Ph.D., California Air Resources Board and Research Professor, University of California at Davis
- Lonny Knabe, Energy Architecture Manager, Nike
- Bob Zimmerman, Managing Partner of Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects' (ZGF) Seattle office
The Roundtable will be held at the Courtyard Marriott – City Center, which is expected to be the first LEED Gold-certified hotel in the Pacific Northwest (LEED certification still pending).
