Ecos co-founder speaks at NW Energy Coalition’s 2008 fall conference

Chris Calwell takes part in panel discussion

Ecos co-founder Chris Calwell will speak at the Northwest Energy Coalition’s annual fall conference taking place in Portland on December 5. Calwell will participate in the Efficiency Works! panel discussion that will address how the region can get to the next level of energy efficiency development through the utility sector. Energy efficiency is the easiest, quickest and cheapest strategy for meeting regional energy needs and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. In order to achieve this goal, the utility sector will need to capture all the region’s available cost-effective electricity and natural gas savings.

Calwell co-founded Ecos after serving seven years in the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) Energy Program. Currently serving as Ecos' Vice President and Director of Policy and Research, he is internationally recognized for his ability to successfully make the technical, economic and political arguments for setting stringent product efficiency specifications for voluntary programs and mandatory government standards.

The NW Energy Coalition is an alliance of more than 100 environmental, civic and human service organizations, progressive utilities and businesses in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and British Columbia. The coalition works to promote development of renewable energy and energy conservation, consumer protection, low-income energy assistance, and fish and wildlife restoration on the Columbia and Snake rivers.

Calwell will be joined on the panel by Linda Dethman of Dethman & Associates and Charlie Grist from the Northwest Power and Conservation Council. The panel will be moderated by Mat Northway of the Eugene Water and Electric Board.
